Served Document Manager™ - Documents: Matter Uploads
When creating a new matter from the matter list page, you can upload on Served Document and any number of Supporting Documents to the matter. Depending on your company's AI settings, once a Served Document is uploaded and you select SAVE, AI processes the document and provides an Intake Child ID. Supporting documents do not receive an Intake Child ID.
Adding Documents
Click the NEW button in the folder, then choose the method for adding:
- Upload Served Document. Adds a single Served Document (a matter can only have one Served Document)
- Upload Supporting Documents. Adds one or more Supporting Documents
- Paste Image. paste a screenshot from your clipboard as a document. You can also press Ctrl+V.
Choose the file, or files, you want to add, then select SAVE to upload.
Drag and Drop: Within the folder, the table header and the area immediately below it is a drop zone. You can drag one, or multiple, documents directly into this zone to upload. Documents added this way are automatically assigned as Supporting Documents.
Served Document v. Supporting Documents
The Served Document is the legal process served on your company (for example, a garnishment). Supporting Documents are the extras that come with is, such as cover letters, exhibits, or a check - you can add as many as you need. When you SAVE, if your company has AI enabled, only the Served Document is run through AI and assigned an Intake Child ID.
Before selecting SAVE you can switch a document between a Served Document and a Supporting Document using the ellipsis (...) and choosing 'Mark as Supporting Doc' or 'Mark as Served Doc'. You can only mark a document as a Served Document when the matter has no Served Documents. Because a matter can only have one Served Document, first change the current Served Document to a Supporting Document.
Intake Child ID
Depending on your company's AI settings, when you save a Served Document, AI processes the Served Document and assigns it an Intake Child ID. This ID also shows whether the document came from an Intake Event that included a Split (See SDM - Document Viewer Actions for more information). If the Intake Child ID has '(split)' next to it, the Served Document came from a split Intake Event, if it says '(no split') then the Served Document did not come from a split Intake Event.
If you have SDM access enabled, selecting the Intake Child ID opens the Document Viewer for the Intake Event in a read only view. If you do not have SDM access, the Intake Child ID appears as plain text with no link.
